Lee DNA Genealogy Project

All requests for membership must be made through directly contacting the Project Administrator at leefamilyforum@aol.comas no provision currently exist to contact Non-Members by email through this site.

The Lee DNA Genealogy Project was initiated in June 2002. The surname “Lee” is of primary interest and includes the variant spellings such as Lea, Leigh, etc. All subsequent references to the name “Lee” should be interpreted to include the variant spellings. The project has tested approximately 220 Lee males via Relative Genetics/DNA.Ancestry.com. Several Lee males tested elsewhere have been added as project members.
The project is seeking additional Lee male DNA donors who are interested in collaborating on family history by the use of genetic testing in research efforts to sort out the many Lee family lines in North America as well as linking to old world ancestors. A primary project goal is to compare sets of Y chromosome DNA markers and relate results to paper trail genealogy. DNA sample donors for the project are nominally Lee males.
Project membership is available to the following individuals: (1) Lee male DNA donors to be tested by DNA.Ancestry.com (2) Lee males whose DNA has been tested by a company other than DNA.Ancestry.com/Relative Genetics, and (3) Researchers of tested Lee lineages who are not DNA donors.

Females cannot be DNA donors in the project as they have no Y-chromosome. They are encouraged to recruit Lee male relatives for testing and participate in lineage verification activities.

RESEARCHERS
Non-DNA donor Lee researcher’s guest member slots show in the Project Members list as “Res of” short for “Researcher of.” This type of guest membership allows these researchers a presence on the project website for contact purposes. DNA results associated with their ancestry.com username account are not included in the project. This prevents non-Lee DNA results from being included in the project. New researchers must provide information explaining their interest in the Project. This may include their lineage connecting them to a Lee surnamed relative.

LEE SURNAMED DNA DONORS AND SPONSORS
Lee males who have had their DNA tested by companies other than DNA.Ancestry.com/Relative Genetics can join this project subject to the following criteria:
(1) Tests must be at a level of at least 25 markers. A level of 46 markers is highly recommended as Y-25 and Y-33 tests have a much higher degree of uncertainty.
(2) The proven Lee male lineage for the tested male must be submitted to the Project Administrator. A project researcher will review the data.
(3) A copy of the test lab “Certificate” must be submitted to the Project Administrator, which will then be converted to the ancestry format.
(4) Test results must be imported into the Ancestry.com database
(5) The donor must have a valid email address, ancestry.com account (free or paid), username and password to associate the DNA data with.
The Project Administrator will assist in this process.

New Participants and Sponsors can join this project subject to the following criteria:
(1) The proven Lee male lineage for the tested male must be submitted to the Project Administrator.
(2) After review of the lineage by a project researcher, the test discount code for the Y-46 will be provided to the participant.
(3) Tests must be at a level of at least 46 markers. Y-25 and Y-33 tests have a much higher degree of uncertainty. Ancestry Y-33 tests can be upgraded to Y-46.
(4) The donor must have a valid email address, ancestry.com account (free or paid), username and password associated with the DNA data.
(5) The participant then notifies the Project Administrator when he receives the results from ancestry.com.
The Project Administrator will assist in this process.
Each Y-chromosome data set is the property of the participating DNA donor individual and/or his sponsor. Data sets are not to be reposted to other websites or republished by other parties without the consent of the DNA donor participant and/or his sponsor.

All project membership requests should be directed to the Project Administrator via direct E-mail (leefamilyforum@aol.com )

Assistance will be provided to include submitting of “Proven” Lee lineage information and ordering of new tests through DNA.Ancestry.com.
No free sample collection kit service is provided by DNA.Ancestry.com.

Please contact the Project Administrator via direct E-mail with any questions or needed assistance. A price discount coupon code good for a 20% test fee reduction is available for those who order Y-DNA-46 tests via coordination with the Project Administrator. The current advertised price for this test is $149 before the reduction.
